UAB Graduate Biomedical Sciences - Program Manager

Jessica Watts is the Program Manager of UAB's Graduate Biomedical Sciences program and the owner/founder of House Plant Collective, a plant shop in the Avondale neighborhood of Birmingham.

With a background in teaching and counseling, she taught four years of mathematics at Ramsay High School. During her time at Ramsay, she started and led the Web Development Mentorship Program, which provided laptops and scholarship opportunities to participants. She also served on the Learning Focus Team, Math Team Sponsor, and led a Code with Google partnership to introduce students to coding. While teaching, Jessica completed her Masters in Counseling from UAB. This opportunity provided the knowledge and training needed to become a compassionate listener and supporter of all students. Those skills became critical towards her progression to UAB as the Curriculum & Website Manager of the Graduate Biomedical Sciences program. Within two years in this role, Jessica advanced into a management role as the Program Manager of the GBS program. In this position, she serves as a liaison between faculty, staff, students, and the UAB community.

In her free time, Jessica spends time enjoying life with her husband, Stephen, dog and cat in Crestwood.
