DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
Whitney returned to her hometown to join the Birmingham Education Foundation as Development Manager in 2015, bringing experience teaching both urban and rural students, in classrooms from Washington, D.C. to Hale County, Alabama.
In her work with middle- and high-school students in a 21st Century Community Learning Center, Whitney implemented a technology- based initiative to connect her students in the Black Belt with tutors at Alabama’s universities for individualized study in reading and math. Whitney earned her B.A. in English at Birmingham-Southern College, where she was a Charles B. Vail Distinguished Teaching Fellow, and her M.A. in English at Georgetown University, while on teaching fellowship in the Community Scholars Program. She also served on the inaugural Junior Board of the Literacy Council of Central Alabama and was part of the Alabama Leadership Initiative in Spring 2015. Since joining Ed, Whitney has established the junior board of young professionals and added the signature event, Ed Family Game Night to Ed’s portfolio.
