SAIL programs need volunteers. Here’s how you can help our students #KeepLearning.
On June 5th, we will kick off our Summer 2017 at 4 different locations. We operate 3 days per week (9AM to 3PM) at each location. I have hired 4 certified teachers to lead the program at each site. My key strategy in helping these students progress in their academics over the summer is to have a low teacher/volunteer to student ratio. I would like to have 2 volunteers in each classroom of 8 to 10 students, along with my certified teachers.
You can volunteer as little or as much as you like. In May, we will email all interested volunteers a sign up link through www.volunteersignup.org If you would like to receive that email in May, just email me and I will add you to the list. You will have a meaningful, enriching experience. No teaching experience is required. Our students are from the Birmingham City School system and are rising into 5th or 6th grade (boys and girls).
Choose from any of our 4 locations:
· Ensley Park and Rec Center
· Central Park Park and Rec Center
· East Pinson Valley Park and Rec Center
· YMCA Youth Center (downtown Birmingham)
We are flexible as to your schedule…come as much as you like. All we ask is that if you do sign up to volunteer, it is best to choose 1 location and stick with that location throughout your volunteer time.
Norwood Resource Center
The Norwood Resource center will be hosting a Junior Master Gardener Summer camp for grades Kindergarten through 6th. Program dates run from June 12th– July 14th 2017. We are seeking Volunteers who are upbeat, flexible, and patient to assist us with teaching our campers reading and math skills that will prepare them for the upcoming academic year. It is our goal to target summer learning loss and equip our students with the tools necessary to be successful in the classroom once the summer is over. If you are interested and/or have more questions please contact Camp Coordinator, Erin Carley, at firstname.lastname@example.org
