BASIC Sports Instructor Description
The ABF is seeking sports instructors for part-time hours in the afternoons for the period June/July 2017. ABF BASIC instructors follow sports curriculum teaching sports– generally baseball/softball, volleyball and soccer to elementary-age students for blocks of 35 to 45 minutes for periods lasting up to three hours. The ABF enriches partner programs through sports instruction to students who have been in classrooms during morning hours.
- Implementing sports curriculum as per BASIC daily lessons
- Creating a positive, supportive, and achievement-oriented environment for students.
- Motivating and holding students to high behavioral standards.
- Working as a team with all BASIC instructors to reinforce socio/emotional character traits
Hourly wage paid based on experience teaching sports/academics.
Neighborhood Academy Teacher
The teacher must have reliable transportation, love to work with kids, and want to be a positive role model for them. They will take ownership of the program at their location for the 5 weeks.
A nationally-normed math and reading assessment will be used at the beginning of the program to determine the students’ strengths and weaknesses. During the final week, the students will once again complete the assessment. The teacher will be responsible for developing daily lesson plans within the calendar provided by NA’s director. Breakthrough Birmingham Instructional Coaches
Breakthrough Birmingham is looking for experienced and effective professional teachers to join us this summer as instructional coaches. Instructional coaches provide content-specific support and mentoring for Breakthrough’s undergraduate teaching fellows. Instructional coaches dictate the quality of instruction and level of academic rigor during Breakthrough’s summer program through their pointed training and coaching of teaching fellows. S.P.R.OUT Garden Summer Camp (Tarrant City Schools)
Seeks Assistant Teacher and Camp Counselors
The S.P.R.OUT Garden Summer Program, hosted by Tarrant City Schools, seeks energetic and motivated staff to work with rising 3rd through 6th grade students. Camp dates are June 12th through July 21st (6 weeks). Work hours depend on position, but daily camp hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and Fridays 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This camp is garden-themed, and many activities take place in our on-campus garden. We are hiring one Assistant Teacher who will assist the Camp Director and lead Junior Master Gardener and enrichment lessons. Certified teacher is preferred for this position.
We will also hire 2-3 Camp Counselors. Ideal Camp Counselor candidates are college students with interests in education, child development, recreation/sports, robotics, hands-on science, arts, horticulture, and/or project-based learning. Flexibility, enthusiasm, and heat tolerance are necessary. Middle School Instructional Leader Description
UM-UK SAIL 2017 is an 8-week literacy based approach to mitigating summer learning loss. The full day program offers rising third, fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students mornings of interactive math and reading instruction and afternoons of enrichment in the arts, play and field explorations. Enrollment is open to students in Jefferson County with preference given to students enrolled in the Birmingham City School System. The American Baseball Foundation Inc. (ABF) is dedicated to helping under-served children ages 7-14 to increase their academic levels all while using sports as the tool. Our mission is to give students the support and confidence to reach their achievement goals through sport and academic programs, clinics, and seminars that orient, empower and nurture youngsters and their families. ABF has after school programs as well has several summer programs throughout the Birmingham area. The Dual Teacher is the leader in the classroom who will ensure the academic, enrichment, social and emotional development of all Summer Advantage scholars. In this position, you as the Dual Teacher will use our provided academic curriculum, your creative teaching strategies, and your own designed enrichment offering to provide a rigorous, engaging and positive day of learning to our scholars. Your afternoon enrichment plan should be a creative, project-based curriculum with daily lesson plans/activities. Enrichment offerings will explore talents and new content areas, which offer both self-discovery and help prepare our youth for their future. Successful offerings could include STEM, the arts (dance, art, spoken word, music, crafts, drama), technology, creative writing, industry awareness (example: engineering, food, entertainment), health and wellness, entrepreneurship, and culture.
