Kelly A. Bownes is the President, CEO, and founder of MedPlan Recruiting, Inc. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and received a Masters in Gerontology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Kelly founded MedPlan thirty years ago and the company provides medical staff planning and physician recruitment services on a national basis to healthcare systems.
Bownes is active in many organizations, including Impact Alabama Board of Directors, Leadership Alabama Board of Directors. MPower Ministries Board of Directors, University of Alabama School of Medicine Capstone Campus Board of Visitors, Birmingham Education Foundation, The Women’s Fund Board of Directors, Treasurer 2008-2009; UAB Center for Aging Board of Advisors; UAB Palliative Care Center, Chairman of the Board, 2009-2010; Hand-in-Paw Board of Directors; Women’s Forum Group, President 2005; Women’s Network Board 2005-2009; Leadership Birmingham Class 2007-2008, Chairperson for Health Day 2008, and Membership Council; Leadership Alabama Class 2009-2010.
Lieutenant Governor Jim Folsom appointed Bownes to the Women’s Health Steering Committee, Office of Women’s Health for Alabama, in 2007. Because of her success, Birmingham Business Journal voted her the 2007 Rising Star at the Best in Business Awards. In 2008, she was selected as the Birmingham Business Journal‘s Top Ten Birmingham Women. In 2009, Birmingham Business Journal placed her in the top 100 of Who’s Who in Healthcare in Birmingham. She was the recipient of the University of Alabama Culverhouse School of Business, Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2012.
