On Friday, November 2, Walter Carr joined with friends of the Birmingham Education Foundation for a special watch party of his appearance with Steve Harvey on the Steve TV Show.
In attendance were members of the Birmingham Education Foundation’s staff, board, and junior board, as well as Walter’s friends and family. Wendy Garner and Jenny Lamey, also joined the party, and they traveled with Walter for his appearance on the show. You can view a clip of the appearance here: called “The Young Man that Moved Steve.”
A few weeks ago, Walter and a small group traveled to Los Angeles for the taping of the show, which aired on Friday. He was joined on the show by Jenny Lamey, the homeowner and Bellhops customer who welcomed Walter into her home, and Wendy Garner, who has helped Walter navigate his recent media appearances. Luke Macklin, CEO of Bellhops, who gave Walter his car, was also in the audience. This segment of the show was full of surprises, including an appearance by J.W. Carpenter, Executive Director of the Birmingham Education Foundation, who announced the Walter Carr Award. This award will be given annually to one student who shows the kind of dedication and character as Walter. Walter also interviewed with Victoria Hollis earlier this summer. You can view that interview and read more about the story here.
Walter also received another surprise from Steve Harvey, who presented Walter with a trip to Grenada as a reward for the good work and character he recognized in Walter. As referenced in the show, the contribution that helped to establish the Walter Carr award was provided by Walter, and Ed is committed to continuing that award in future years.
