Wow – what a great celebration Ed got to attend today! This morning, the Birmingham Sheraton offered the Birmingham Ballroom to the students, staff and guests of the Wenonah Academy of Hospitality and Tourism for their inaugural Initiation Ceremony. Local partners contributed their efforts to deliver an event that was both interesting to students and wholly relevant to the curriculum of the Hospitality and Tourism program. Students watched demos from Chef George Sarris of the Fish Market and Chef Clyton Sherrod of Chef Clayton’s Catering – aided by the service of some of Wenonah’s culinary-track CTE students – and were greeted by Ms. Tara Walton of the Birmingham Visitors and Convention Bureau and Mr. Hank Ponder of Artistic Concepts. After hearing brief presentations by Dr. Spencer Horn and Board of Education Member Emmanuel Ford, the staff at the Sheraton took students on a tour of the Hotel and Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center properties. Later, lunch was served and students were officially welcomed into the Academy with personalized plaques and t-shirts! Congrats guys!
